Ashtray in Dreams

Dreaming of an ashtray means you are anxious about smoking, whether you crave the act of smoking or giving up smoking all together. Are you smiling when you dream of the ashtray, or are you dreading the ashtray?

The ashtray dream can also mean you are holding on to memories of little value that are hindering your development as an individual.

You dream that you are smoking a cigarette and using an ashtray to collect the ashes. In this dream, the ashtray might symbolize your relationship with smoking or other unhealthy habits. You might be struggling with the decision to quit smoking or trying to come to terms with the consequences of your actions. The ashtray could symbolize a sense of indulgence or self-destructive behavior.

  1. I was on a getaway with a friend and we were staying in a hotel. At first we were given separate rooms and the one I was staying in already had another (unpleasant/abrasive) guest. I went to change rooms and I was given the key to a room that hadn’t been cleaned and had a large ashtray with cigarette butts overflowing. This room was clearly unacceptable and there was a rabid cat that I had to push away at the entrance of this room. I was not afraid of the cat feeling like I was stronger than it. I was on my way to the front desk again to inform them of the room conditions and the rabid cat when I awoke. Also to mention is that I could not find my friend in the dream, although that did not preoccupy me.

  2. I dreamed of cleaning out an ashtray that had over flowed with cigarette butts and clearing off a table top of the same. However, I was in work and remember being mad that I was in the position having to clean up the mess. There were people around me – they were rich people and looking down and laughing at me.

  3. My dream was of a small brown rat dead in an ashtray. I don’t smoke. But I know the rat was of betrayal or relationship coming to an end. But I’m still not sure what the ash tray signified.
